Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Chaudhary Anil Kumar, while accepting the people’s mandate in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections, said Congress has won the hearts and will definitely win Delhi in times to come.

He pointed out that Congress’ vote share has jumped from 4.26 to 12 per cent while the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) vote share, which was 54 per cent during the Assembly elections in 2020, slumped to 42 per cent, and that of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) remaining static at 39 per cent.

Chaudhary said that Congress fought the elections based on the progress and development achieved during the 15-year Congress’ good governance in Delhi under Sheila Dikshit, and the ‘Vision Documents’ the party had announced for the MCD if elected to power.

He said the party also exposed the corruption and failures of BJP’s 15-year misrule in the MCD, and corruption and bad governance of the AAP in the past eight years, but the BJP and the AAP, misusing power and money, tried to suppress Congress’ development agenda.

He added that if Arvind Kejriwal does not fulfil his promises made during the MCD elections and regularise the employees, including the ad hoc sanitation workers, Congress workers will come out on the streets to protest, to discharge its job as a responsible opposition working for the interest of the people.

Appreciating the efforts made by the Congress workers in the elections, the DPCC president said that the rise in the party’s vote share was a clear indication of the hard work put in by the Congress workers at the grass-root level.

Chaudhary Anil Kumar said that the BJP projected Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the MCD election campaigns but the people of Delhi rejected him as the BJP lost power in the corporation, which was a numbing blow to the ruling party at the Centre, as the Modi government had done nothing to bail out the MCD from its financial mess.

He said the BJP had merged the three MCDs to postpone the elections, which were due in May, with the promise that it will infuse funds to strengthen the MCD, but people still rejected the party, as the Modi Government gave no funds to the MCD.

Added to it, he said the new voters were perhaps unaware of the development works carried out by the Congress Government during its 15-year rule, which impacted the final results of the MCD election.
